Objective

Velvet Taco selected our agency to represent it nationally after our successful launch of its Fort Lauderdale location. The objective was to position Velvet Taco as an industry innovator and cultural tastemaker, expand its visibility in key markets, and support major milestones, such as new market openings (including its first-ever international location), high-profile collaborations and groundbreaking menu innovations.

Approach

​​The Dana Agency designed and executed a comprehensive communications strategy that combined market-specific storytelling, creative campaign activations and culinary leadership positioning. By aligning Velvet Taco’s bold, playful identity with high-impact media and cultural moments, we established the brand as a leader in the fast-casual category. Key efforts included:

  • National & International Openings: We supported the launch of multiple Velvet Taco locations, each of which was amplified through tailored press releases, influencer collaborations and partnerships with key local organizations. Notably, the agency was scoped to launch the Wynwood location, where we secured over 80 media clips and 56+ million impressions. We also wrote and pitched Velvet Taco’s global expansion into London which generated more than 40 top-tier placements across U.K. and U.S. outlets.
  • Chat GPTaco 2.0: Building on Velvet Taco’s tech-forward brand positioning, we promoted the second anniversary of the world’s first AI-generated taco. Coverage spanned from hyperlocal TV broadcast segments, including KSAT 12 San Antonio Live, to national trade publications such as QSR Magazine and US Foods and global features in BBC and Times of India.
  • Viral-Worthy Campaigns: The Dana Agency amplified Velvet Taco’s bold brand voice through strategic media and influencer activations. We secured widespread press coverage around Velvet Taco’s billboard stunt offering NBA star Klay Thompson three years of free tacos following his move to the Dallas Mavericks—an activation that went viral across sports and lifestyle outlets including NBC 5 Dallas-Fortworth, MSN and Audacy 98.7 The Spot. Separately, we ideated and launched a late-night disposable camera influencer campaign tied to Velvet Taco’s 4 a.m. hours. The campaign generated authentic user content, sparked viral social buzz, and secured more than 125 million impressions.
  • Seasonal Happenings & Holidays: From Cinco de Mayo to Pride Month, we executed timely holiday tie-ins and limited-time WTF tacos, earning national and regional coverage with 500+ million impressions.
  • Culinary & Thought Leadership: We positioned Chef Venecia “V” Willis as a culinary innovator through media interviews, national features and broadcast appearances. Coverage highlights included Southern Living, Nation’s Restaurant News, and Medium, generating 674 million impressions.
  • Influencer & Media Engagement: The Dana Agency orchestrated 30+ hosted media and influencer dines across key markets, resulting in 1.9 million+ impressions, in addition to creative drop-offs with top-tier outlets and hyperlocal influencers that boosted social media engagement and regional buzz.
  • Awards & Industry Recognition: We managed submissions to top industry awards, further cementing Velvet Taco’s reputation as an innovative, category-defining brand.

Results

Over the course of the partnership, The Dana Agency secured 700+ media placements across local, national and international outlets, generating billions of impressions and an ad value of $69 million. Top-tier secured coverage included Fast Casual, QSR Magazine, Nation’s Restaurant News, Southern Living, Forbes, BBC, Times of India, Travel + Leisure, Eater, Modern Luxury, Ocean Drive, and more.
